Now that the holidays have come to an end I decided to start the new year with one of my favourite breakfasts. Partly because it is a tasty morning treat but mostly because I need the extra nutritional boost to get back into my daily routine. The reason for this is simple. Don’t we all indulge a little bit during Christmas? I sure do – shamelessly. I can not stay away from all the little snacks and treats that this season has to offer. It is about time I went back to tasty, healthy and filling breakfasts and this green avocado smoothie has been a favourite of mine since years.

Most of us know by now how incredibly healthy avocados are, but not many can spot a perfect avocado. It can be quite a gamble to cut an avocado open, but it doesn’t have to be. You can carefully apply pressure to your avocado with your fingertips. Perfectly ripe ones will yield ever so slightly. Unripe ones will be rock hard, if they are too soft, then you’re out of luck, and it has gone off most likely. Another good and straightforward trick is to check the top of it. Just carefully remove the stem. If it is almost white underneath then you need to wait for a little longer; it should be green for perfect ripeness.

Now that you know how to pick the perfect avocado you might be stuck with another problem after making this smoothie. What to do with the other half? If you intend to use it within a day, then you can just place the avocado with its cut side onto a small plate and store it in the fridge. ½ Avocado 1 Banana, frozen 200g (1 cup) raw Spinach 1 tsp chia seeds 1 cup almond milk

Cuisine: Vegan
Serves: 1 smoothie
INGREDIENTS
  • ½ Avocado
  • 1 Banana, frozen
  • 50g (1 cup) raw Spinach
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 500ml (2 cups) almond milk
  • 1 tbsp agave syrup or sweeter of your preference
  • ½ tsp vanilla essence
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and process until perfectly smooth.

It is true that fruits are high in calories and natural sugar, but not everything is about the calorie count. It should be common sense that a banana which has 100 calories is much healthier than a low-fat bag of “cookies” that are pumped with chemicals and fake sweeteners.

2: Coconut

Coconuts are delicious.

Coconuts contain medium chain triglycerides (MCFA) that raise the metabolic rate of the liver up to 30 percent.

They are also a sweet and filling snack that you can replace with other junk food cravings. You can try coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut flour, coconut water or unsweetened shredded coconut. Dried coconut is also a tasty snack and can be added to all kinds of recipes to add a little flavor.

Try adding coconut milk to a cup of coffee for a sweet and tasty treat.

3: Avocados

Burn fat and improve health with avocado.

Avocado nutrients have fat that tell your body to stop spiking blood sugar. Spikes in blood sugar cause your body to store extra fat, and excess fat on our bodies is something that we all want to avoid.

Keep in mind these fruits are calorie and fat heavy, so just one combined with a meal is plenty for a day. Try adding a slice or two to a salad. You can also try making some spicy guacamole with jalapeno peppers. Incidentally jalapenos burn fat as well.

4: Tomatoes

Tomatoes make a delicious snack.

These fruits are packed with a whole lot of vitamin c and phytonutrients that both are fat killer. Vitamin C is what enables our bodies to burn fat that is already stored with exercise. The phytonutrient caretenoid serves as an antioxidant for our body that helps with losing weight and cardiovascular health.

With literally hundreds of varieties of tomato available, there are plenty of different tastes to keep you coming back for more.

Try slicing up a fresh tomato then drizzling olive oil and vinegar on top for a savory and light snack.

5: Apples and Pears

Apple and pears help you lose weight in two different and very effective ways. Both fruits are packed with fiber that helps increase the metabolic rate and stay full in between meals. Try slicing an apple or pear up in the morning then caring it in a baggy for a quick snack when you are on the go.

6: Grapefruit

Juicy grapefruit is always good!

We discourage you for falling for the old grapefruit fad diets, but that doesn’t mean that this fruit isn’t a rock star food that burns fat. Grapefruits contain the antioxidant naringenin which evens out insulin levels.

This is a way of warding off the infamous hunger pains while allowing the body to burn fat more easily. You can just cut a grapefruit in half then enjoy it with a spoon for a quick snack that is fun to eat.

7: Bananas

Bananas are filled with healthy fibers that help curb appetite and make the body burn fat. The indigestible fibers in bananas, or resistant starch, block carbs from being absorbed by the body. This makes the body burn fat as energy instead of the carbs.

Avoid These Relationship Killers Before It’s Too Late

When it comes to dating, it’s important to realize that it doesn’t stop at attracting men. The other part of the equation is being aware of the stuff that puts relationships at risk.

On top of cultivating a good attitude and taking care of yourself, it also makes sense to avoid some key mistakes that can UNDO all your hard work.

In this case, ignorance is most definitely NOT bliss. Even if you do manage to get a guy to fall for you, being oblivious to certain behaviors could make him reconsider sticking around.

What am I talking about exactly? Read on:

#1: Being Needy

Call me Captain Obvious, but you know this is true. Even if curbing this annoying trait is common sense, I still see so many women ruin a perfectly fine relationship because of this.

For instance, my good friend Janine was telling me about her recent breakup with a guy she’d been dating for about half a year. “I just don’t get it,” she tells me, “things were going great when out of nowhere, he wanted to have ‘The Talk’.”

Now, women are usually the one to open up this kind of discussion, so I knew something was wrong for Janine’s guy to make the first move.

Apparently, Janine’s guy Dave felt “suffocated and smothered” by her attitude. “According to him, he’s had enough of me constantly trying to validate the relationship,” she laments.

Well, given that she had been trying to convince Dave what a great couple they’d make, I wasn’t really surprised it would to come to this.

I learned from Janine that Dave had just gotten out of a long relationship just several months before they met. So it seems that he was just in a different place emotionally.

In other words, he was more comfortable taking things one day at a time.

Of course, Janine’s situation doesn’t apply to everyone, but there’s something important to be learned from what happened to her. In particular, a needy attitude like hers can manifest in “smaller” ways which can add up over time.

For example, burdening your man with the need to check in with you is going to kill his romantic feelings for you. He’ll no longer see you as the fun, cool girl he fell for.

Worse, he’ll treat the relationship as an obligation. Don’t be “that girl”.

Give yourselves some time and space to miss each other. Send him a quick email or text that you’re thinking about him, BUT keep it reasonable. Keep things balanced by attending to your career, hobbies and other aspects of your life.

Of course, the point of being in a relationship is to be happy and enjoy all the warm, tingly feelings that follow. However, it isn’t supposed to fill in a void in your existence.

Knowing this distinction makes a huge difference in the way you handle dating and relationships.

# 2: Turning Every Discussion Into a Debate (That You Need To WIN)

The only way to deal with this problem is accepting the cold, hard truth that you and your guy are different people. No matter how much you have in common, there will ALWAYS be some fundamental things you’ll never agree on.

Learning to live with this reality will save you a ton of headaches – not to mention lessen the chances of sabotaging your relationship.

So how do you get around this brick wall instead of banging your head against it?

The next time you get into an argument, try to focus on the CORE issue rather than forcing your opinion on him. While it’s tempting to make him agree with you, remember that it doesn’t solve anything.

Let’s say that your guy thinks that you spend too much. On the other hand, you feel that he’s a bit stingy when it comes to tipping at restaurants and the like.

Maybe it’s because you have a soft spot for guys who are generous while he learned to be frugal at an early age.

It wouldn’t do you any good by telling him, “You should have tipped that waiter more – after all, his service was great!” Trying to hammer him with your logic will only make him stand his ground all the more.

The main issue here is that you both have different views about money – acknowledging this plays a huge factor during your arguments.

You probably won’t change your opinions overnight, but it does keep you from resenting each other (very poisonous to a relationship!) and understanding why you’re different in the first place.

In time, you’ll learn how to approach these sore spots with kindness so you don’t get into a contest to prove who’s right or wrong.

#3: Wearing Your Heart On Your Sleeve All The Time (a.k.a. Smothering Him With Emotions)

Generally speaking, women are hardwired to communicate in emotional terms. This can be a problem for guys because they’re often on a different wavelength.

Chances are your guy would prefer talking in a straightforward way instead of dissecting their feelings over an hour-long conversation.

Case in point: notice how the average man and woman typically talk about their day.

While a guy would probably just give the facts (i.e. what they did and/or what happened), a girl’s account of her day is likely to involve how they felt throughout the day (e.g. “I was SO relieved to find out my department wasn’t going to be downsized!”).

That’s why not turning EVERY conversation into a lengthy emotional exercise is a better way to get your guy to understand you (and not turn him off!).

Don’t of tell him over sobs and sniffles that your felt so awful when he didn’t bother to let you know about (or invite you to) his office party. You’re better off making a no-frills request and skip the tears.

An effective way to help him see where you’re coming from is by saying something like, “I’d really appreciate it if you’d included me in the things that mattered to you. I don’t mind that you didn’t invite me, but it would be nice to know about the stuff going on in your life.”

By chilling out and being concise with your request, he’ll get the message loud and clear and not make him shut down on you.

In the end, you’ll get extra points with your man by not trying to get him to open up about his feelings at EVERY turn.

I’m no psychic, but I’m pretty sure NO GUY has ever uttered these words:

“You know what this relationship needs? MORE emotional drama! ”

It is true; clothes can make you or break you and a fashionable wardrobe goes a long way when it comes to appearing feminine.
Wear flattering clothes
Choose clothes that flatter you and your figure. Throw out those old concert t-shirts and baggy jeans. Replace them with pieces that bring out your curves, are stylish, and in fashion.

Frilly and lacy accents can turn a plain Jane blouse into a sizzling, sassy top.

Not every woman enjoys or even likes wearing a dress. This is no problem if you have a few pair of tailored slacks, cute capris, or rockin’ shorts for the summer.

Use a light coat of foundation with just a smudge of blush. Apply mascara to bring out your gorgeous eyes.

Regarding eye shadow, experiment with shades and styles that compliment your facial structure, eye color and hair.

Wear a lip gloss for an all day shine or lip stick for that extra pop. There’s nothing less feminine than the dreaded “facial hair”.

Waxing, tweezing, and hair lighteners all work well. Make sure you maintain regularly to keep a smooth and feminine look.

Update the hair
If you have had the same hairstyle since high school, it is time for an updated look. Even short hair can make one look feminine and sophisticated.

Ask your hairdresser for a cute cut that accents your facial features, shows off a little of your personality, and is easy to keep.

Choose a style that allows you to wear it several different ways.

You can have a nice professional look for work, yet work a little magic with styling product and a hair straightener to create a sexy, sleek hairdo for a night out on the town.

Treat yourself to a mani/pedi
Take care of your finger and toe nails. Do you have nails that are weak, thin or do not grow?

You can still keep them in pretty shape with a clear coat of polish. Fake nails are also a possibility, with regular touch-ups to keep them attractive.

You can make large fingers appear smaller by applying a coat of polish, leaving a small edge of both sides of the nail. This gives the appearance of longer, slender fingers.

Do not forget your toes. Now that you are wearing those pretty little sandals, show off toes that are painted. Treat yourself to a pedicure along with that manicure.

Being feminine isn’t all about your clothing, the latest trends, hair styles and pretty looking nails. Your attitude, personality, body language, and confidence are important factors.

Women should always hold their heads high and stand tall and proud walking into a room.

Smile brightly, make eye contact, be self-assured that you are a beautiful woman who not only cares about herself, but those around her.

Being a woman and showing the feminine side of you is a complete package. You can be as feminine as you want to be, as there are really no right or wrongs here.

Before you move to the next step with your man, read this!

Entering a new relationship can be daunting, especially if you have been single for a while.

It’s a time when your routines get shaken up and you have to start thinking about his needs, as well as your own.

But all of your fears are nothing when you compare them to the excitement and joys of a new relationship, right? Well, you’d think so.

But all too often you hear of a woman meeting a great guy and falling in love, only to have him get cold feet and pull away at the last minute because his relationship fears get overwhelming.

Now many would say that this guy wouldn’t be worthy of a second chance. And this may be rightly so.

But relationship and commitment fear is something which affects a lot of single guys, so I thought it would be important for me to let you know what the 6 BIGGEST FEARS are that men have when it comes to entering a relationship.

This way, you will know what to look out for and will gain an understanding of the fears that may be running through your man’s mind. And understanding these will give you the ability to DIMINISH HIS FEARS before they have a chance of giving him second thoughts.

Fear #1: That you will discover his ‘true self’ and reject him.

Although men will do their best to never let it show, inside they all have A LOT of insecurities – just like we do.

“I wish I was taller” “I need to work out more” “I wish I could be as funny as that guy” “She’s too good for me”

Believe it or not, your man is constantly comparing himself to other men to see if he measures up. He worries that people are going to eventually see him for how he views himself in his worst moments (e.g. unattractive, boring, lazy), and does his best to compensate for this by acting macho.

In particular, he fears that YOU are going to start seeing through his confident ‘disguise’, realise your mistake and then reject him for someone more worthy.

You may be thinking: ‘WHAT??? That’s not my man!’

Thank again. He is a lot more vulnerable than that hard exterior lets on.

What you can do: Find opportunities to regularly give your man the message that you love him exactly for who he is. That he is enough. That you don’t need OR want anyone else.

Fear #2: That he will have to stop doing what he loves.

Sometimes guys get this all-consuming idea in their heads that having a girlfriend will equal no free time. They worry that before they know it they will be having to trade in their time hanging with the lads, playing sport, and watching TV for shopping and rom-coms.

Where do they get this idea? I don’t know.

But what I do know for sure is that any guy who thinks I want to be with him 24/7 in a relationship can think again – we need our girl time and time to ourselves just as much as they need theirs.

What you can do: Give him space in the relationship to do his own thing. Encourage his time playing golf with his buddies, and don’t ask to tag along.

Make sure you keep up all your own hobbies and interests, as well as time with your friends and family.

It is essential for a happy and healthy relationship that you both have your own interests as an individual.

Fear #3: That you will stop making an effort for him.

Please don’t take this the wrong way. But your appearance IS highly important to him. He may love the way you look now, but that silly voice in his head is wondering:
“Is she going to let herself go once we’re together?”

You may not realise this, but the effort you put into your appearance is actually a signal to him of how much you care. Let me repeat: the effort. Not how closely you resemble a supermodel, but the effort you put into your self-presentation.

Although it’s natural that you will both relax a bit once in a committed relationship, he will be looking out for any major changes related to your appearance.

Changes, for example, in your eating or exercise habits, effort you put into your hair and makeup, and clothes you wear around him. Don’t worry – I’m not talking about any natural aging here!

What you can do: Keep looking after yourself after you have become an item. This doesn’t mean going to any extremes, just try to keep generally fit and healthy, think about what you wear, put a brush through your hair in the morning, and make a bit of extra effort when you are going out. Easy!

Fear #4: That he won’t be able to provide for you.

Guys feel a strong need to be able to provide for their partners and families, no matter how well you may already be able to take care of yourself.

Respect that his need to provide is part of his male identity, and that this is something he may feel quite strongly about.

This fear might particularly affect men who don’t have a steady income or aren’t yet ‘set up’ in life, as well as men in a situation where their potential girlfriend earns more than they do.

What you can do: Always show your appreciation when he does show generosity and want to provide, but don’t ever take it for granted. If he doesn’t have much money and you do, try not to flaunt lots of flashy new buys in front of him, and get creative when it comes to dates.

Pick venues or activities that are either free or low-cost, to ease some of the pressure from his need to provide. For example, suggest a picnic at the park rather than an expensive restaurant. Half the cost, double the romance!

Reassure him that you don’t need to lead an expensive lifestyle to be happy, and are proud of him for the work he does.

Fear #5: That you will want to settle down straight away.

The connections are forming in his head:
‘She wants to be in a relationship with me now. How long is it going to be before she wants a wedding ring and houseful of kids? There’s no way I’m ready to be a husband or a dad’.

Obviously, if you have met in middle age, you may be comfortable moving things along a bit faster than you were when you were in your twenties.

And there is nothing wrong with thinking about the future and knowing what you want in terms of children and lifestyle.

But men often need a bit more time to think about these things, and the start of a relationship is a really delicate time where talking about big decisions like moving in together or having kids could easily cause him to freak out.

What you can do: Try not to put any pressure on the relationship at the start. This should be a fun time where you are just getting used to each other and enjoying each other’s company. Now is not the time to start making any big decisions.

As your relationship progresses, there will be times where it is natural to start having more serious conversations about your life goals and where you can see the relationship heading.

Just make sure that you gently introduce any big ideas and give him some time to process them. If he needs more time, accept this – some ideas take a while to get used to.

Remember, it is never a good thing to try and force anyone into getting married or having children.

Fear #6: That he won’t be able to keep you happy.

He may have finally got you to go out with him, but now he’s bound to be thinking:
“Heck, how am I supposed to keep this amazing and gorgeous woman satisfied?!”

“I can’t do romance. I can’t cook. I can’t keep her happy.”

Honestly. This is a genuine fear that is going to be running through his mind: that although he may have you under his spell right now, he is soon going to run out of tricks and the magic is going to fizzle out.

‘But why?!’ you may be thinking. ‘He makes me SO happy every day’.

What you can do: The best way to reduce his anxiety around this is to constantly show him you are happy. You probably do this already through smiles, laughter, thank you’s, and affection.

As well as showing him, be sure to actually tell him every so often just how happy he makes you feel. And as long as he is still making you happy, all I can say is keep it up.

Step 3: Let your rib cage move and not only your elbows. then try to switch sides and do the same motion on the other side to complete one rep. Make sure you continue doing this alternating from side to side until you complete the prescribed number of reps.

3. Plank

Step 1: Begin this workout by Placing your hands directly under the shoulders, then slightly wider and than shoulder-width apart.

Step 2: Try to squeeze your glutes and prop your body, in doing this, it forms a straight line from head to your toes. Hold the position for the prescribed number of repetitions.

4. Jump Squats

Step 1: begin this squats by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart.

I don’t mean to sound judgmental, but there are people in your life that will try to drag you down, whether they’re aware of it or not.

People in a bad situation will try to feel better about themselves by spreading their toxic way of thinking to others.

They pull others down with their hurtful words, or convince them that they’re not good enough.

Instead of doing something about their own situation, it’s easier to go down this dark path and take everyone else with them.

And the Law of Attraction states that when you focus on something, the Universe will feed you more of the SAME.

So the good news is that you can choose to avoid this downward spiral and get on another path instead.

This is why you need to be careful about the company you keep. Choose the people that can share their constructive energy with you.

If their attitude, mindset and words lift you up, you know you’re in the right place.

Their energy is contagious, and you’ll naturally raise your own frequency and attract only good things in your life.

As for toxic people, I know there are times when you simply can’t avoid them.

They could be family, friends, or co-workers – and you might be even living with some of them.

You don’t have to butt heads with them and simply respond with positivity.

Who knows, your own energy might “rub off” on their consciousness. They might even think about what you told them and re-evaluate their own perspective.

#3: Get out from under the grind

We all have our lives to lead, and that means falling into a routine.

Now, don’t get me wrong – having structure in your life is important and even necessary.

At a basic level, we need it to function on a daily basis. Incorporating helpful habits into your everyday routine is a GOOD thing.

#4: Quiet your mind

Meditation is one habit that goes very well with practicing the Law of Attraction.

When you learn how to control your thoughts (instead of the other way around), you’re in the best position to manifest the things you want.

A lot of people find it challenging to keep their thoughts above water when they’re flooded with negative emotions.

With meditation, you can take a step back and remove yourself from a situation in a healthy way.

There are books, free content online and mobile apps that can help you with this.

You can search by a specific person or channel, or even topics like easing anxiety, anger management, and so on.

This is a low-maintenance habit which will only take about 10-15 minutes daily. You could even spend five minutes if you’re really strapped for time!

This basically works by sitting down on the floor (or a chair) and closing your eyes.

The idea is to take slow, measured breaths and pay attention to the physical sensations you’re feeling at the moment.

Are your muscles tense? Is your heart beating quickly from the stress you’re currently experiencing?

These are some of the things to be mindful of as you breathe in and out. If any other thoughts enter your mind, don’t resist it.

Don’t chase after them and just let it pass. Then you can go back to focusing on the rhythm of your breath.

Take this time to focus on the feelings of love, health, success and prosperity.

In other words, the things you want to ATTRACT.

Concentrate your attention on inhaling and exhaling. Once you’ve calmed your mind enough, you’re ready visualize the things you want to manifest in life.

This will have a powerful effect on your subconscious and put you on the path towards your goals.

And that brings us to the last life-changing habit…

#5: Affirmations

Muhammad Ali, one of the greatest boxers in history, was known for saying, “What you’re thinking is what you’re becoming.” 

Indeed.

That attitude helped him become what he was, and it will serve you well, too.

Most of the time, people don’t pay attention to the kind of thoughts they hold in their heads.

Left unchecked, they often feed into a toxic narrative they have about themselves without realizing it.

Like I said earlier, what you put in your subconscious affects you.

The things you tell yourself are like seeds you plant in your mind and they’ll grow over time. Those same thoughts will express themselves in your actions and the choices you make.

So, you need to be careful which seeds you plant.

Joseph Murphy, author of the book, “The Power of the Subconscious Mind”, tells us that this part of your mind can’t distinguish which thoughts are real or imagined.

As far as it’s concerned, your subconscious will treat it as FACT whether it’s happening in the physical world or NOT.

Thus, people don’t just operate on these subconscious beliefs. Without being aware of it, they’re turning their thoughts into reality.

And it WILL happen – one way or another.

The perception you have about yourself is largely influenced by the people you had around while growing up.

Their input – whether good or bad – left a mark on your subconscious that’s hard to shake off.

And this programming kicks in whenever you make decisions and it dictates how you respond to tough times.

This inner dialogue can act as your inner voice of confidence and self-assurance… 

…or as in most people’s cases, it’s the voice of fear and self-doubt.

You might think you’re not good enough or smart enough because you couldn’t stop the bad things from happening.

You curse yourself for messing things up, then blame it on some pre-assigned character defect.

Usually, it’s in the form of labels like “Loser”, “Hopeless Case”, “Slacker”, “Weirdo” and so on.

But remember, these labels only have as much power over as you ALLOW it.

You can apply the Law of Attraction to change this inner chatter and rewire your mind for success instead.

It’s impossible to attract wealth, abundance and happiness if you’re focused on putting yourself down.

You can do the opposite by using encouraging statements that will empower you to take action.

Here are some examples to try during your meditation sessions:

  • Affirmations that span across time: Think about what’s already happened, what’s happening now, and what’s yet to come. Then put it all together like this: “BEFORE, I was broke, miserable and hated the world. But I know better NOW and want to turn it around. Things are about to change, and SOON I’ll be prosperous, happy and living my dream life.”
  • Affirmations that are crystal clear: Saying something like “I am loved” or “I am blessed” is a good start, but they’re a bit vague. Try elaborating on these ideas and flesh them out even more. Then you’ll end up with a statement like “I’m surrounded by people who love and support me. They help me grow as a person and want to see me succeed.” As for being blessed, you can say “I’m blessed with infinite opportunities and resources, and my life is full and abundant.”
  • Affirmations with an attitude: Another way to supercharge your subconscious is by being a little cheeky with your statements. When that voice of fear and insecurity kicks in, drown out the noise with, “Whatever, I’m amazing at everything I do. I fight like hell and do my best, and I can’t hear what you’re saying!” Adding some lighthearted humor amplifies your signal and makes it easier for the Universe to hear your thoughts. Try this the next time you’re feeling especially down on yourself.

When you improve the quality of your thoughts, it’s as if your circumstances will rearrange itself on their own.

These changes will seem to happen without doing much on your part. But the truth is that you’re already doing the heavy lifting by disciplining your mind.
